And that's a fair question to ask. It goes to the age-old question (mostly ignored by society at large, but written about in the 400-page "Lila" by Robert M.Pirsig - his only other book besides "Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance"); "Who are we to decide what is 'Sane' and what isn't?" No answers here. Just questions.

By no means do I mean to disparage the men and women trying to improve the lives of autistics, or at least mean to call their efforts a lost cause. And I wasn't trying to claim autism couldn't be reversed so much as asking whether it should be.

Very very interesting. I do think, though that some of it was around both in negative and positive ways back in the 20's when a certain Robert S. W. was born. MY job for the Summer sort of assumes that Austism can - not be "reversed" - at least be "treated," with psychological "sensory processing" work. That sort of just deals with comprehension on an academic level (hardcore autistics often cannot process "concepts" among a larger overall story of information structure...if that's clear). Anyway, Savages comments really didn't have any legs, asd far as I could tell. They ended up coming across like a monkey claiming there's no way we can fly men to Mars. The monkey has no education regarding science. Clearly Savage has zero education regarding psychology. So the comments were pretty much laughed at al the smart people in the room moved on, ignoring him.<br/>-P.W.
